HUSL Weather Policies
Heat, Air Quality, Rain, and Lightning
At HUSL, the safety of our players is paramount. Our weather policy aligns with national best practices to ensure safe playing conditions.
Heat Policy
Practices and games are based on the forecast temperature at the time of play, as per The Weather Channel for Hughson, CA:
• Below 90°F: Normal play.
• 90°F – 95°F: Normal play with extra hydration breaks.
• 95°F – 100°F: Modify activities with extra hydration breaks, reduced intensity, and moderately shortened sessions.
• Above 100°F: Cancel or significantly shorten activities, prioritizing player safety.
Air Quality Policy
We use the Air Quality Index (AQI) to guide activities:
• AQI 0 – 100 (Good to Moderate): Normal play.
• AQI 101 – 150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups): Modify activities for sensitive individuals.
• AQI 151 and above (Unhealthy to Hazardous): Cancel all outdoor activities.
Monitor local air quality at PurpleAir and refer to the U.S. Soccer Air Quality Guidelines.
Rain and Lightning Policy
• Rain: Activities proceed unless field conditions are unsafe.
• Lightning: Suspend activities immediately if lightning is seen or thunder is heard. Resume only after 30 minutes without further occurrences.

Coaches and parents are encouraged to stay informed about conditions and follow these guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being.
